COLUMBUS, Ind. — A new effort to make children safer during house fires will launch Saturday in Bartholomew County.

The Columbus fire Department will give away sets of reflective stickers, to be affixed to the lower portion of doors and door jambs on the outside of rooms where children sleep, during the Cheer Fund distribution.

The Cheer Fund paid for the first 2,000 sets of stickers, and the Columbus fire Department hopes to obtain enough donations to allow the fire department to buy stickers for homes throughout the county.

The new sticker campaign will make it easier for firefighters to locate children in the event of a fire, said Bryan Bailey, co-chairman of the Cheer Fund.

Burton said the Cheer Fund purchased about 2,000 sets of stickers, which cost about 29 cents each. he expects today’s distribution to pass out about 1,000 sets.

Leftover sets of stickers will be made available to the public on a first-come basis at Station 1, 1101 Jackson St.

Homeowners also can pick up free smoke detectors — the biggest life-saver in a house fire — at Station 1, said Matt Noblitt, public information officer for the Columbus fire Department.

Probably not. Most will not be willing to take the risk to find out for sure. Another sign you can use is a "Beware of Guard Dog". many times petty criminals will spend time "casing" a neighborhood, but not very closely. They want the easy target. but, there are good reasons behind getting a real alarm system…we just got one as my husband travels a lot and it gives me peace of mind. many companies offer specials and the monthly fee is less than a modest dinner out for 2 people. Something to consider. also, make sure you check the locks on your windows and sliding glass doors, and basement windows.

There is NO difference. I still have the 100% genuine alarm stickers that were on my windows when I bought my current residence. in 6 years, I have not been able to find any evidence there was even an actual alarm. that said, the stickers actually HELP a professional. It lets them know what type of alarm to DISARM. For the amateurs, the sticker works better than the actual alarm.

My car caught on fire in the garage of my apt complex and I had to use the fire extinguishers to put out the fire and now my landlord is billing me for recharging them,for replacing the glass we had to break to access them and even for the identifying stickers that were on the glass.Of the four I used,one was empty,one was almost empty,two were missing hoses and only one was fully operational. And none were at a distance of 75 feet or less of the garage where the fire occured.

you had a choice…. you chose to use the extinguishers that belonged to the building. Pay the landlord before he sues you or keeps your deposit or kicks you out for starting a fire at his building. if your car caught his building on fire, your would really be in trouble… dont fight it, just cough up the money for the recharges and glass. yes it sucks, but it is cheaper in the long run and way less agrivating then fighting with him over this.

Just a thought..Could your car be covered under your landlords insurance ? l was hit by a car while standing in a parking lot and my auto insurance paid my bills even tho my car was at home.

You should pay him for the extinguishers that were IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.
