Mac Mini vs. Sony DVD/HDD DVR?

I’m contemplating between Mac Mini or Sony DVR for to be connected for to TV. The main purpose: store my camcorder videos, my photos and some TV recording. I also have a windows PC with wifi at home.

Sony DVD can do all plus DVD burning and 160G HDD, but I don’t like the way to do the video transfer. I like it that I can copy some of the DVD into the HDD.

I think mac mini may be a good idea, but I heard lacking the capability to record TV. I have a satellite TV receiver to connect.

Appreciate any views.

Honestly, if you want to record TV, then don’t go with the mac. I’m sorry to say it (I use macs all the time) but they don’t, as far as I know, record TV. For everything else they are great. If you are going to be doing DVR stuff (like recording TV shows) then you should get a dedicated DVR. Pretty much everywhere that does TV will have a version of one.

Basically, it will be a trade off for you. The Mac would be better for storing videos and pictures, but it won’t record TV. The Sony sounds like the one you should probably get.

How do I get to my security system to see why certain programs are blocked?

Whenever a download is attempted, I am told that it is blocked by my security system. How do I reach my security system?

If you are going to download anything, you will be limited overall. You have to pick one or the other. I suggest that you just turn off your security system when you plan to download, and turn it back on after the download has completed.

Hidden Covert, 40, “”, “”, “”, “”, “”, “”, “”, “”, “”, “”, “2″, “”, “4″

If you’re trying to protect your property and your family, you may be considering hidden cameras. These are a great idea for answering many questions you might have about what really goes on when you’re not there, from examining the treatment of your children by the nanny to discovering theft at your business.

Hidden cameras are designed to blend in with the environment, making them virtually invisible – especially to those who don’t know to look for them. Most people visiting a home or business would never think to search for one, and even if they did, they will never find them unless they know exactly where you’ve hidden them. Many people are on their best behavior when they know cameras are actively watching them, but a hidden camera allows you to expose the behaviors that happen when people believe that no one will find out.

Today, most covert cameras are also wireless. Not only does this make them easier than ever to hide in an inconspicuous location, but it also makes it much easier to place them exactly where you want them. You don’t have to worry about running wires across the room, or hiding the wires once you’re done. Hidden cameras offer one of the most flexible home surveillance options available.

Installing them is easy- you can hide them between speakers, behind in a book, or even in an alarm clock. Everyday objects make easy hiding spaces for the hidden cameras available today. Covert cameras are surprisingly small, including many that include both the camera and the recorder in a single unit, rather than a camera transmitting to a receiver located somewhere else. These digital devices are easy to use and offer many hours of recording at a time.

Hidden cameras have many uses, including many in which a standard security camera would not be suitable. Everyone with children living in the home should have a hidden camera. This allows you to watch your child’s true behavior. Everyone knows that kids act differently with adults around, especially if the adults are their parents. By placing a hidden camera in the home, you’ll know if they are behaving properly or not. There are many other great uses for these cameras in the home. You can keep an eye on pet sitters, pets, and even a spouse who you think is being unfaithful. In fact, these cameras are a great option anytime you want to know what’s going on, but don’t want your surveillance to be obvious.

This type of surveillance camera isn’t just useful at home. At work, such a camera can help you catch a coworker snooping through your desk. For business owners, hidden cameras are an invaluable strategy for keeping an eye on employees. It is a particularly good way to catch theft and other acts committed by employees who think that no one is watching them.

The benefits of hidden cameras are nearly endless, making them a great security option for the home, office, or business. Small, compact, and easily hidden, these easy-to-install cameras can catch anyone in the act, all without letting them know you’re watching.

How many of you know the death toll caused by imperialism?
To suggest that the USA govt. has lied to it’s people, and promoted/participated in terrorism is not a “conspiracy theory”; it is an undeniable fact, backed by sound reasoning and irrefutable evidence.

Yay or nay?

True, there’s basically unlimited evidence to back this up. Anyone who denies this probably has a mental defect, or is missing a chromosome or 2.

DIY Home Security Wireless System System – Dont Be Without One

If people think of the installation of a home security system these people quickly think that it could end up being far too difficult and don’t want to try to install it by themselves. It is really basically much easier than you think and you should save a great deal of money too.

Criminal offenses are on the increase so it is highly important to look at the responsibility of your measures and safeguard your own home and also your family from harm. Implement the idea now before it is too late. Just about the most efficient means of protecting your home from danger without doubt by the installation of a home security system.

Generally there are in essence two variations of security system and those are hard-wired as well as wireless. A hard-wired system was traditionally the sort of system of which is installed in shops, offices and also properties. It offered good reliability and longevity and is extremely long lasting. All the same, these type of systems come at a price. Except if you are really competent at electric installation work really don’t make an attempt at one of these installations your self. You actually really want a expert in order to install hard wired system and this can easily also increase your all round home security deployment costs. Now what options are there and are you able to install a burglar alarm system cheaply?

A wireless security system has a perfect possibility for a do it yourself’er to install their particular alarm system along with save a lot of money. The installation is way more simpler for a wireless security system versus hardwired system.

For starters plan out where you would probably like the actual control panel to be installed. It will usually be located in an easy to get to hallway place. Subsequently make a decision about in the places you prefer your sensors to go. Give full attention to high traffic places such as hallways and landings and make them your initial concern of which you need to have to defend and use PIR motion detection devices for these. Simply start looking at the principal rooms throughout your house, notably the ones that can be readily accessible externaly. Be sure to install PIR motion detector sensors inside these areas as well.

Your exterior entry doors definitely will need to be safeguarded by way of door contact sensors. There are commonly 2 sorts of doorway sensors – delay and also instant. Typically the delay sensor makes it possible for a person to go into the property and offers sensible time so that you can disarm the burglar alarm system. Put in this sensor on your main entry/or exit points of your home. An instant type door sensor will send the particular burglar alarm directly into alarm as soon as the doorway contacts are broken.

As a rule, the majority of wireless sensors tend to be simply attached to the divider or door – that’s it you’re finished! Just learn the sensors into the home security system control panel and you will be protected.

trying to decide on wireless home security system?

i want 3 cameras so is dvr system is best or wireless system also i want motion detection on one the camera so also i need help on choosin a simple system

The best wireless systems use your wifi off your router. You power the cameras by plugging them in to a power source, but the wifi connection makes it possible for you to mount the camera anywhere. You connect to the cameras with software that comes with them. The best system is one by Panasonic and its expensive, in the 5 hundred dollar range per camera. Good news is you don’t buy a DVR, the images are stored by panasonic on a secure web site that you can access by your smartphone or from a computer. Some of the cameras can be scanned and focused from your smart phone. Most of these cameras are motion activated.

http://www.panasonic.com/consumer_electronics/gate/cameras.asp

They might be the best.

hope this helps

At one time or another all of us who are concerned with home security and protecting our valuable items come across can safes. There’s all kinds of instructions online how to build one. Some are elaborate and some are quick and dirty.

In this article I’m going to discuss three things to keep in mind if your about to build or buy one.

There a possibility the type of can you pick could be used by an intruder. Think about this, just because it’s a warm soda can doesn’t mean no one if going to pick it up and use it or take it with them. If it’s some kind of inviting food can, it may be picked up to use at a later date and then the secret stash place is discovered.

Just how do you make the cut on the can? You may see some elaborate cutting tools used or one of kind openers that would be hard to locate. Also you want to keep in mind how to safely use metal cutting tools. So you first step is to make sure you can safely and neatly cut your secret hiding can safe.

If you do make y our own, when you take the label off you have to be sure it can be reattached securely and still looks unused. If a can is going to be used often you may want to look at one of the commercial offerings on the market.

Hopefully you’re one of those people that enjoy building things and discovering how to do something as you go along. Already have the tools and maybe even better ways of improving on a design. To make it even look more natural.

I cant find them, any ideas where I should look.

Buying Led Lights For Your Home

LED (Light emitting diode) was discovered as early as in 1907 by a Britisher naming H J Rounds in famous Marconi labs .After him in 1927 a Russian Oleg Vladimirovich Losev independently reported on the creation of light emitting diode (LED).The first ever practical use of light emitting diode (LED) was made in 1962 by Nck holonyak junior. And today we all use light emitting diodes (LEDs) in one form or the other.

We all try hard to attain good status and work day and night for earning social status. After one attain that particular status or closer to it which he desired, then he tries to change his life style .One very major change he tries to bing out in his life style is by changing his home environment. These days it is very difficult to spare some time and thought about renovating your home. For the very same reason, there so many companies and individuals who offer interior décor expertise. With their expert opinion and plan they change the environment around you I which you want to relax. Light emitting diodes (LED) has a great role to play in one home renovation .Interior décor experts has one main tool in their decorating technique and that is light effects to create an ambiance which one desires. Whether it is interior or exterior spot lights and other such light effects really create a difference in the out look of house as a whole. Many plants and other garden ornaments require light emitting diodes support to add to their beauty. Light emitting diode not only intricate photosynthesis in plants as a replacement of sunlight but also does not harm plants due its less heat effects. Inside house especially in drawing rooms to high light the fixtures and other wall hangings it is used. In study room as well light emitting diode (LEDs) lamps are being used instead of old heavy looking and huge lamps having bigger bulbs. On stairs also to highlight those light emitting diodes (LEDs) are used and they cover odds of the house at on end and on the other hand adds beauty and elegance to whole environment of the house.

Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are really durable and not fragile like other bulbs and tube rods which are not shock resistant and can be broken with external resistant. Apart from decorative lights ,light emitting diodes (LEDs) are being used in so many other appliances that one cannot even imagine but the reason is that we have no really focused on minor things which have light emitting diodes (LEDs) as one of their components. Torch , lamps, microwave and many other such daily used utensils. Above all the cell phone which we use in our daily routine have got a screen which is being illuminated by light emitting diodes (LEDs).Security cameras which is a common feature in every other sensitive days have got light emitting diodes (LEDs) inside it. Knowing all above one is being forced naturally to buy light emitting diodes (LEDs) and other such appliances having light emitting diodes (LEDs).

I smiled when I heard tough talk about social security during the debate last night, did you?

Social security is not a problem, believe it or not…

Social Security is not in crisis. The explanation is way too long to go into here but, Alan Greenspan gave, in his recently published book, an honest and accurate assessment of where we are. We are fine and it is not a looming budget crisis as many candidates attested to.

Left out of last night’s debate is that Social Security is NOT a budget line item. The budget borrows money from the account and doesn’t return it to out-pace the debt service and administration of the program, but, it is NOTa part of the federal budget. Nobody gets a chance to vote for or veto it. The media has led everyone to believe otherwise. It’s just not true that social security is in any trouble looking out 30 years and making conservative fiscal assumptions on employment and the “annuity” to be paid..

Yeah, I got the feeling they were fudging some facts about Social Security. I didn’t realize Social Security was not a budget item, so they had me fooled.

But even with all the spin, “reforming” Social Security is still a non starter. For example, I can’t imagine the Michiganders want to eliminate Social Security after losing their auto company pensions. The Repubs. must be playing to the old time conservative base: the one that was based on rolling back the New Deal, pointing nuclear missiles at Russia, and eliminating the UN.

My feeling is that Social Security would have few problems if the Trust Fund wasn’t being raided. I don’t think this will be difficult for most people to comprehend if they ever get a truthful explanation.

Medicare is the what will really bankrupt the treasury. Of course, Republicans can’t talk about this without raising criticisms of their big pharm give away and the unsustainable system of medical care that we have for everyone.

Digital Cameras – the Constant Innovation and What to Look for When Buying

Main Concept And Evolution

When digital cameras became common, a question many photographers asked was whether their film cameras could be converted to digital. The first recorded attempt at building a digital camera was by Steven Sasson, an engineer at Eastman Kodak. The first true digital camera that recorded images as a computerized file was likely the Fuji DS-1P of 1988, which recorded to a 16 MB internal memory card that used a battery to keep the data in memory.

Digital cameras can include features that are not found in film cameras, such as:

- Displaying an image on the camera’s screen immediately after it is recorded.

- The capacity to take thousands of images on a single small memory device.

- The ability to record video with sound.

- The ability to edit images and deletion of images allowing re-use of the storage they occupied.

A digital camera is a camera that takes video or still photographs, or both, digitally by recording images on a light-sensitive sensor. Most digital cameras measure subject distance automatically using acoustic or electronic techniques, but it is not customary to say that they have a rangefinder. The resolution of a digital camera is often limited by the camera sensor (typically a CCD or CMOS sensor chip) that turns light into discrete signals, replacing the job of film in traditional photography.

Digital cameras have high power requirements, and over time have become increasingly smaller in size, which has resulted in an ongoing need to develop a battery small enough to fit in the camera and yet able to power it for a reasonable length of time. Digital cameras are incorporated into many devices ranging from PDAs and mobile phones (called camera phones) to vehicles and even webcams. Webcams are digital cameras attached to computers, used for video conferencing or other purposes.

When You Buy Digital Camera

Measuring the “pixels per dollar” as a basic measure of value for a digital camera, there has been a continuous and steady increase in the number of pixels each dollar buys in a new camera consistent with the principles of Moore’s Law. Before you buy digital camera, it is important to determine what kind of pictures you want to take with it. Be sure to check first its capacity to produce high quality photo images and don’t forget about camera’s batteries – make sure they are rechargeable.

When you buy digital camera, sometimes the spending does not end there. For instance you may want to buy additional memory if the one that is already included doesn’t suit your need and its capacity is not enough for you. This is why you must make sure that the gadget that you buy has not only a “built-in” memory or a card slot for external and additional memory, but also includes memory card with good enough capacity.

The LCD is a special consideration you have to look into when you buy a digital camera. This is a small screen located at the back of a digital camera that allows you to preview the pictures you took. This has to be considered when you buy digital camera, because it uses up a lot of battery power.

It is essential for you to feel comfortable holding your digital camera while shooting. So, before you buy digital camera, the right thing will be to test and check if you are comfortable holding it and using it. Special features that will suit your needs should be thought about, too before you buy digital camera. No matter what your needs and wants are for the device, your financial resource will play a huge part in dictating the type of digital camera you will buy. When buying digital camera in online store, make sure you already know what you want and start sorting by lowest price first and later calculating shipping and sales tax.

With these information, you can now figure out what you really need and want before you buy digital camera.

how do i clean my camera sensor with a cloth?

i found an old canon SLR film camera and theres some spots i can see on the sensor (the slanted piece of glass inside the body) i dont want to buy any special supplies, i have a microfiber cleaning cloth, how should i go about cleaning it with that?

That’s not a sensor, it’s a mirror that reflects the image from the lens up to the viewfinder. The dirt or spots on it will have no effect on the image as the mirror snaps up out of the way when the photograph is taken. However, they can be annoying when trying to compose you photo if they are visible in the viewfinder. Put some lens cleaning fluid on the end of sheet of lens tissue and VERY gently wipe the mirror. You can get lens cleaning fluid and lens tissue at any camera shop or probably Wal-Mart. It’ll cost less than $5.

You could use the microfiber cloth, but the lens tissue and fluid are designed to clean the coated optics used in lenses, as well as other glass surfaces, without damaging them.

*Edit*
fhotoace (below) is right on the money if you were using a DSLR. I think he missed the part where you said it was an old film camera. Film cameras don’t have image sensors (unless you count the film). You can gently clean the mirror in a film SLR with no problem. If the camera was a DSLR, you would definitely want to take it to a repair shop, however.

Your Property Will Be Safer With Outdoor Security Cameras

The outdoor security cameras come in many models. There is the bullet camera, the tilt and zoom model, the box type model, but the purpose is the same to keep your home and your business safe. The mere presence of a camera on your property is a deterrent against those who would cause harm to your home, to your business and even your family.

We live in a day when burglary is on the rise. The police cannot be everywhere at all times. So you need to take care of yourself. If you spend time away from home, maybe you travel on business you will more comfortable if you know your family has a security camera set up.

Some even post signs on their property saying that there are security cameras on the premises. If would be intruders see this they are more likely to leave and try another property to invade. If you want to view and record at night you will need an infrared camera system.

This allows you to capture images at night time in complete darkness. Most security cameras today that use infrared illuminators to see in darkness also provide full color pictures during the daytime. This makes the infrared security camera a very versatile choice for security indoors or out.

Go with a traditional box style camera if you want to have security over a large span or have difficult lighting situations. These cameras can be fitted with a number of different lenses and have adjustable settings for a variety of lighting conditions. There outdoor use however will require a weatherproof housing.

For your business property you may want to go with a pan tilt zoom camera. This will allow you to adjust your view from side to side, from up and down and even zoom in. If you have a security team on your business staff you will want to use this model. It will give your security staff the most functions.

It will allow your security personnel to use the camera to take a look at all of your property from a central location. If you have a stationary camera then an intruder might be able to avoid detection if he can stay out of the view of the camera. A security camera is also good for insurance purposes.

Some insurance companies offer discount if you have a security camera system in place. And you will find making an insurance claim is easier when you have film of vandalism or other illegal act on your property. And you will make the job of the police easier when you can provide film of the criminals.

Depending on your climate you will want to make sure you have an outdoor camera system that protects your camera housing. Some camera systems designed for extreme cold have heaters to keep the unit from freezing. If you live in a windy area you need your camera to be protected from blowing debris or from being blown away itself. Look into an outdoor security camera system today.

Businesses Secured Locking System

When you run your own business, what is your primary concern? More than likely, you will be concerned with keeping your business profitable. But, in what way do you seek to keep your business profitable? More than likely, you are concerned with sales and revenues and well you should be. However, you also need to prevent people from appropriating your inventory without your permission. In other words, you need to protect your business from theft. There are many steps you can take to prevent theft and mostly all of them come with securing the perimeter of the business. Many people will do this through installing alarms and this is truly a valid method. But, there is another means that must be employed. You will need secure locks that are very difficult to disable and breach. This is where the skills of a professional locksmith will come into play.

A locksmith is a professional who either produces or repairs locks. They will also install them and will often craft custom locks that have a high level of security associated with them. It simply is not enough to venture into the local hardware store and purchase a lock and doorknob off the shelves. Well, you could do exactly this but you would be placing your business at risk. Professional thieves can easily pick such locks if they are motivated. No, it is not easy to pick a lock but it can be done.

However, professionally produced locks designed with industrial strength would be very hard to pick quickly. As anyone familiar with thieves and break-in crime will tell you, speed is the main thing that will help facilitate a thief’s venture. If the lock is too complex or difficult to pick, the thief will move on. Wasting too much time trying to pick a lock greatly raises the odds of being caught and thieves do not want to be caught. Of course, these complex locks can only be procured through a professional locksmith. Standard, run of the mill locks sold in retail stores will simply not be of the same strength or value and that is why they are best avoided.

Some may wonder if the costs associated with purchasing professionally produced locks will be quite expensive. Honestly, the prices of the locks will vary from model to model. But, there is surely a quality lock available no matter what you budget may be. And, of course, the benefits of purchasing such a lock are rather vast. In a way, locks of this type can be considered a form of insurance. There is a cost associated with purchasing and installing these locks but they are intended to keep your inventory and personal files safe. As such, the costs associated truly do pay for themselves.

The bottom line here is that if you purchase a lock to secure your business, you will want to acquire the absolute best lock you can. After all, it is your source of income that you are trying to protect. The best way to do this is with the help of a professional locksmith.
Exactly HOW effective is a security cable lock for your laptop?

In a day or so I’m about to purchase a cable lock for my new laptop that I’m going to use while I’m in university.

It’ll give me some peace of mind knowing it’ll be safe. But I would absolutely love having complete peace of mind instead.

Is a security cable lock (particularly the Kensington ones) really effective to keep my laptop safe?

I’d appreciate any input!
I’m also living in residences (dorms) and my door is pretty thick and heavy with a lock that’s quite solid and a knob that doesn’t turn when locked.

So I don’t know… I still somewhat paranoid though.

Cable locks are similar to the chains you use to lock up bikes.

They will stop the opportunistic thief, but if someone is really determined then there are tools that they can use to cut the lock.
