This is a public verse private matter.
Self monitoring is healthy. its private and its a personal choice, that is called self awareness, we need this to develop fully. We cannot truly understand anything until we truly understand ourselves and this can only be achieved through self awareness which is self monitoring.
Where as surveillance is not a choice and it immediately becomes a public matter. Someone else is doing the monitoring usually in secret. The one who is being monitored does not know what the surveillance will be used for, it may well be used for illegal purposes.
