ENID — Enid Police Department has five open positions for officers, and currently is undergoing a time-intensive applications process. Capt. Bryan Skaggs said the application process takes between four and six months, depending on the number of applicants and length of background investigations performed on each candidate. He said once the current hiring process is complete, the department likely will begin another. Applicants must be 21 years of age by the time they attend Oklahoma Council of Law Enforcement and Education Training academy, and cannot have any felony convictions. Candidates also must pass a physical agility test, polygraph and psychological examination, drug screening and undergo and pass a background check. the salary range for a patrol officer is $29,843 to $31,661, with increased starting pay for those who are bilingual, college educated or CLEET-certified. Chief Brian O’Rourke encouraged qualified candidate to apply through the city of Enid’s website, enid.org. “Enid has cultural and ethnic diversity, and we want the department to reflect the community,” he said. “We are a young and progressive department and there are quite a few benefits.” He said the department is looking for “highly motivated” men and women who are looking for a good career. “We’re looking for officers who want to be involved in this community,” O’Rourke said. “We need officers who want to make Enid a better place.” “no law enforcement experience is needed,” Skaggs said. “We have education benefits and tuition assistance.” other benefits include health insurance, access to a state pension plan and access to a soon-to-be completed training and fitness center within the department, longevity pay and a vehicle take-home program. Skaggs said the department offers officers opportunities for advancement. “It’s an exciting career, with opportunities to move throughout the department to our K-9, detectives and narcotics units,” he said. for the physical agility test, applicants must be able to run 1.5 miles in 15:30 or less, complete 29 sit-ups in one minute or less, run 300 meters in 69 seconds and complete 25 push-ups with no time limit. Applicants must complete an impulse test, pass a background screening and undergo written and oral exams before the Police Civil Service Commission. A physical also must be completed for the state pension board. Applicants first must apply through the city of Enid website, and then will be mailed an application packet from the department.
