Gunman to Montclair resident: 'Shut up or I will blow out your brains'
A Gates Avenue woman was in her back yard when an armed man emerged from behind her garage, took out a handgun and threatened her, according to police.
The 59-year-old victim was behind her residence at about 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, when she heard noises coming from the garage. Detective Lt. Scott Buehler of the Montclair police stated that an unidentified man then walked out from behind the garage, came toward her, pulled a handgun from his waistband and said, “Shut up or I will blow out your brains.”
The victim ran inside her house while the suspect, described as a black man who was about 5-feet 10-inches tall and in his late 20s to early 30s, fled down the driveway and was last seen running south on Gates Avenue, police said.
The suspect was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, a knit winter cap, and blue jeans, authorities said. the handgun was described only as having a brown-colored handle grip, according to investigators.
The crime was not reported until almost two weeks later, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, when the victim approached police officers on Gates Avenue and told them about the incident.
