People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise incourt. Initial charges often change as a caseprogresses.Albany Police about 1:45 a.m.Thursday, police were called to a glass-break alarm at Petco, 717Geary Street S.E. the culprit wasn’t able to break all the waythrough or get inside, and nothing was taken.
Alarm ends in arrest —
While there, officers saw that Gentle Dental next door also hada broken window.
Shortly thereafter, a taxi driver flagged down the officers andtold them a suspicious looking man had been pacing in front of thePetco earlier that evening. the man was now on Salem Avenue, thetaxi driver told them.
An officer found a man matching the description near theintersection of Salem Avenue S.E. and Pine Street.
About that time, another officer found a backpack at nearbyCooper’s Deli-Crossroads, 1915 Pacific Blvd. S.E.
There were prescription bottles in the backpack with the nameWilliam Parnell Smith on them. also inside were corporate creditcards issued to Gentle Dental.
William Parnell Smith, 57, of Albany, the man stopped on SalemAvenue, was arrested on charges of second-degree burglary andattempted second-degree burglary.
He was lodged at the Linn County Jail.
Dogs sniff at school — Drug dogs from theAlbany Police Department and the Linn County Sheriff’s Officepatrolled the hallways sniffing lockers Thursday morning at SouthAlbany High School, according to Principal Brent Belveal. Theydidn’t find anything. It was the first time dogs had performed suchan exercise at South, Belveal said.
Argument leads to arrest — Police were calledto a disturbance about 2:10 p.m. Wednesday in the Kmart storeparking lot, 3100 Pacific Blvd. S.E. and ultimately arrested thetwo people arguing on unrelated charges.
According to an officer, the man and woman who had been fightingwere questioned, but their stories conflicted.
The man consented to a search of his vehicle and a drug dogdetected a small amount of meth.
Larry Daniel Darnell, 54, of Lebanon, was charged with unlawfulmeth possession.
Lebanon police were notified and arrested the woman, Teri LynnMorgan, 40, of Albany, whom they had been looking for in connectionto a 2011 burglary. Morgan faces a charge of first-degreeburglary.
Both were lodged at the Linn County Jail.
Burglary — about 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, a womanliving in an apartment in the 2300 block of Queen Avenue S.E. tolddispatchers she returned form a 19-day vacation and saw her frontdoor had been forced open.
Listed taken were a flatscreen TV, DVD player, oxycodonemedication and fake pearl jewelry. the total value of the items wasnot yet known. no suspects.
Linn County Sheriff about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday,a resident of the 36500 block of Crackerneck Drive called deputiesto report a burglary. A Wii console, games, iPod 4G and CDs weretaken from the unlocked house. the items were worth about $870. Nosuspects.
And meth, too — A neighbor called deputiesWednesday morning when she saw a man at the house where he used tolive in the 900 block of Cascade Drive, which has since beenforeclosed upon. No-trespassing signs had been posted.
A deputy responded and spotted Cory Alan Padgett, 43, attemptingto leave on a bicycle. he was cited for first-degree criminaltrespass. there was allegedly a bindle of meth in bag attached tothe bicycle, and a charge of unlawful meth possession wasadded.
Padgett was lodged at the Linn County Jail.
Lebanon Police about 11:38 a.m. Wednesday,police responded to a crash involving a postal vehicle and aChevrolet Malibu in the 500 block of South Main Street.
Possible medical issue —
A witness told police the Malibu narrowly missed her vehiclebefore colliding with the postal vehicle.
The postal carrier, Robert Irvin Robinson, 31, of Lebanon wasnot listed as injured.
The driver of the white 1999 Malibu, Bobby Dean Trembley, 62, ofSweet Home, appeared to be having a medical issue and agreed to betaken by medics to the Lebanon hospital to get checked out,according to police.
There were no citations.
