Seven men appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Dec.22], and denied wounding two men in a fight at Docksiders.

All seven were released on $5,000 bail with one surety, and required to wear electronic monitoring tags. they follow after a teenager charged with assault as being among the first wave of defendants to be required to wear the devices.

Skyah Furbert [20], K’Wonde Lathan [21], Terrence Christopher [21], Kenneth Caines [27], DeVaughn Whitfield [27], Jermaine Lovell [34], and Ian DeSilva [36] all pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting two men on December 18, 2011.

The defendants were said to live in the Alexandra Road, Court Street, Fentons’s Drive, Loyal Hill Pass, Scott’s Hill Road, and Happy Valley areas in Pembroke, Devonshire and Sandys. they were represented by lawyers Marc Daniels, Elizabeth Christopher, and Charles Richardson.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at Docksiders at approximately 2:15am. All seven defendants were said to be identified on CCTV footage, and also said to be members of Parkside. The Court heard that both victims required stitches after the assault.

Despite the DPP objecting to bail for all except mr Furbert; all were bailed in the sum of $5,000 each with each man required to find a surety in the same amount. with the agreement of all seven and their lawyers, all agreed to accept an ankle bracelet and abide by all special bail conditions set.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner set the bail ordering, “Each man must wear an Electronic Monitoring Device as operated by Court Services. That EMD will confine you to your residence twenty-four hours a day.”

He explained that anytime they moved from their residence, they must first get the permission of a Probation Officer. the Magistrate ordered that they re-appear for Mention on 5th January at which time a trial date will be set.

Terrence Christopher, alone, faced an additional charge of assaulting a Police Officer on 21st December 2011. the Magistrate set this matter to be dealt with on 5th January along with the other two charges already lodged against mr Christopher.
