All I Wanted For Christmas Was…A Radio Station
MAYHEM RADIO PRODUCTIONS PURCHASES RADIO NETWORK
Radio broadcaster Neal Mayhem’s production company has purchased the infrastructural interests of UnKutHDRADIO.com
Mayhem, who hosted a show on the ailing network until two weeks ago, left the station after a dispute over pay and conditions.
The radio station’s management issued a statement earlier today, announcing their decision to cease trading with immediate effect.
The purchase, which was made for an undisclosed sum, means that “Mayhem Radio Productions” assumes responsibility for the stations broadcasting equipment and infrastructure, including its team of staff based mainly in London, England.
It’s thought the station will undergo a name change, and some minor content changes, as well as providing Mayhem with a slot to continue hosting his own radio show.
Mayhem follows in the footsteps of his US peers Howard Stern, and Rick Dees, who also started their own radio channels, in order to provide themselves with a platform to broadcast.
The new station will rely on sponsorship and advertising in order to sustain itself. Mayhem will not take a cheque in his new role as Station Director, however, he will pay himself to broadcast his weekly show (time and day TBA).
“I do this mainly for love, but love ain’t free. This is basically a hobby for me. We aren’t bankrupting Sirius XM or the BBC anytime soon, but even so, bills still have to be paid. And in order to bring in the revenue to pay ‘em, I have to be rewarded”, said the 35-year-old self-styled radio ‘bad-boy’.
Mayhem, who is based in both London and Houston, Texas, will begin work on the new service in the new year.
“Minutes of Mayhem” is a weekly online radio show and podcast, attracting more than 120,000 downloads a week.
