Colleyville switches to new web-based alarm site
COLLEYVILLE – A new web-based alarm system promises to cut down on false alarms, make it easier to renew annual permits and educate people on burglar alarms.about 99 percent of the alarms that Colleyville police respond to are false, said Toni Oyler, program coordinator for the police department. the city sends two officers to investigate every burglar alarm at an estimated cost of $260,000 a year in manpower and paperwork.”It takes those two units off the street,” she said.Colleyville started using the PMAM Alarm Management system Jan. 2 and has already received positive feedback, Oyler said.more cities are hiring third-party companies to handle their alarm permits. PMAM gets a portion of the revenue from the alarm fees and permits. All of Colleyville’s estimated 3,000 alarm permits transferred seamlessly to the new system. Residents can visit the website to renew the permit, see how many violations they’ve had or pay fees.the ability to pay online is a huge advantage of the new system, Oyler said. the website also has a wealth of information on alarm triggers to prevent false alarms.
