KNOXVILLE—Living Light, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s solar-powered house, will be the focus of the January 20 meeting for professionals certified in the design of green buildings.

All LEED-accredited professionals and building industry specialists are invited to attend the luncheon held 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the mill Room at Cherokee Mills, 2200 Sutherland Ave., Knoxville.

The East Tennessee chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council is sponsoring the event. Participants will earn one and a half hours toward their LEED continuing education credits.

The case study will review the design of Living Light, as well as the implementation of the house’s energy-saving techniques such as the cylindrical solar arrays, innovative double façade, and the specially designed home automation system.

Living Light placed eighth overall in the US Department of Energy’s 2011 Solar Decathlon. It is a project of the UT College of Architecture and Design completed in collaboration with multiple UT disciplines.

The luncheon is $10 for chapter members and $15 for non-members. Seating is limited to fifty people. To register, e-mail easttnusgbc@gmail.com and indicate program name and dietary preferences. Registration must be finalized no later than January 18 due to the need to place food orders.
