Fire extinguisher snafu causes Sumner Hill evacuation
Students at the all-ninth grade Sumner Hill Junior High were evacuated for about an hour today after a teen accidentally knocked a fire extinguisher from the wall, which spewed foam that entered the building?s air vents.
Fire officials told administrators that although irritating, the foam was not dangerous to students, said district spokeswoman Sandi Beason. Students were evacuated as a precaution at about 2 p.m., but back in class an hour later in time for the last period of the day.
Clinton firefighters responded to the school to assess the effects of the fire extinguisher?s foam on the east end of the school and to advise administrators on the evacuation of students. Firefighters made the call on students returning to class, Beason said.
There was never fire or a danger of a fire being caused, she said.
