Carlsbad Home Burglary Attempt Caught On Tape
SAN DIEGO — A Carlsbad man is installing more security cameras outside his home after two cameras set up in the back of his house captured footage of three masked men trying to break in. the attempt happened in broad daylight on December 14, and homeowner Vladimir Savkin said he was leaving for work when he saw a silver Mazda pull to the curb across from his house and put on its flashing lights.Moments later, a man knocked on Savkin’s front door. although his father-in-law was upstairs, he didn’t answer. Savkin said he did get a good look at the man, who then went back to the Mazda.”He decided that the house is empty so he came back to the car and two more guys got out of the car and they went straight to the backyard, putting masks on,” Savkin told 10News reporter Allison Ash.the surveillance video shows the men testing doors and windows to see if they can get inside. at one point, the men are seen looking over the side gate at something in the street. the video shows them removing their masks and hoods and leaving Savkin’s backyard.Savkin’s wife was pulling into the driveway as the men left the home.”She saw them, but she did not realize they were burglars,” Savkin said.Savkin said the men got back into the Mazda and drove off, but not before a neighbor snapped a picture of the car’s license plate.Savkin contacted the Carlsbad Police Department and said a detective told him another home in the area had been burglarized that same morning.10News asked Carlsbad police for an update on the case, but was told the lieutenant in charge of media inquiries was off duty.Savkin said he’s disappointed that officers haven’t returned his calls because he wants to know if the would-be burglars are off the streets.
