Man Steals ATM from Credit Union in Beverly Neighborhood
Chicago – Police have released surveillance camera photos of a man who stole an entire ATM from a postal employee credit union in the far South Side Beverly neighborhood last month.
About 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, the ATM at the Chicago Postal Employee Credit Union at 10025 S. Western Ave. was taken by a man who had assistance from another man in carrying the machine to a car, an alert from Calumet Area detectives said.
Surveillance photos show the first man entering the credit union and taking the ATM from its spot, and a second man assisting him in taking the machine away from the building into a car, then driving away.
The man who initially took the ATM is described as a black man with a thick build, wearing a black knit hat, black jacket and black gloves.
Police urge business owners who have ATMs to make sure the machine is securely fastened and in a well-lit area. Police also ask area residents to report any suspicious people, vehicles or activity.
