Fire Alarm Evacuates Fans From Lobos Game
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Fans were evacuated from The Pit on Tuesday night just before the new Mexico Lobos game with Montana State began.

The evacuation was triggered by an alarm in the southeast concession stand.The game was delayed by 30 minutes. after all the commotion, the Lobos won easily 91-46.University of new Mexico Associate Athletic Director Tim Cass said it came from a heat detector in a concession stand.”The heat detector operated properly, we believe. there was no fire,” Cass said.The State Fire Marshal’s Office said the detector alarms when heat rises too quickly or it’s just too hot in the area. Officials said UNM safety inspectors are trying to figure out which it was.”What we believe right now is that it was 160 degrees or greater in that concession stand,” Cass said.three weeks ago, fire officials discovered another problem.”The smoke evacuation system isn’t 100 percent. That system operates on the same system that does the heating and air conditioning,” said Johnny Montoya, of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.Extra staff is now required to watch out for fire, in addition to the automatic system.”If there were to be a fire, we’re very dependent on that system to move smoke out of the building quickly because the ceiling doesn’t have a sprinkler system,” Montoya said.Fire officials are worried that if a real fire happens, people might not take it seriously because of all the false alarms.The fire marshal’s office said it is expecting a full report about the false alarm from UNM on Thursday.
