ComEd making infrastructure upgrade in Elk Grove Village
Throughout this month, ComEd will be performing an infrastructure upgrade by replacing roughly 2,500 feet of underground cable to enhance service reliability for Elk Grove Village customers.
The upgrade is expected to improve system performance in the area and aims to reduce the frequency and duration of outages to save customers money.

The utility provider will be performing additional infrastructure work throughout northern Illinois this month as part of its implementation of the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act recently enacted by the General Assembly.
Under ComEd?s grid modernization program, the company will invest $1.3 billion to strengthen the existing power grid serving northern Illinois by replacing thousands of miles of cable and poles and upgrading substations and equipment.
ComEd will spend another $1.3 billion to digitize the electric system, including distribution automation devices that will automatically reroute power around a problem; install a smart meter in every home and utilize other Smart Grid technologies.
ComEd is funding the work through a $2.6 billion rate hike authorized by state lawmakers last year.
