CCTV Systems: What’s Old Is New Again
CCTV, or closed-circuit television, has been a part of CCTV systems for many, many years. They’ve been used for security by businesses for decades. however, in recent years, these have gone high-tech, such that CCTV installation is much easier, and there are many more features available, as well.
Utilizing Internet protocol capabilities with CCTV
Today’s security cameras that are utilized through these systems are not traditional analog systems. Instead, they use IP, or Internet protocol, technologies to give them better resolution, easier to use features, and much more flexible installation.
What to do if you’ve got an old analog CCTV system
Because CCTV installation is quite easy, you can actually combine your old analog TV system with new IP technology for cost savings. Although you can conceivably replace all of your old analog equipment with new, digitally based equipment, you really don’t have to. you can instead combine the two, save yourself some money, and get most of the benefits of the newer technology all at the same time.
Why are CCTV systems advantageous for security?
Easy setup and maintenance
You can buy and set up these systems very easily, and can maintain them quite easily as well. While old analog systems were expensive, bulky and hard to set up, today’s systems are both smaller in price and size, meaning that you can have pretty sophisticated equipment without breaking your budget. in addition, these systems are very flexible, such that you can set them up in just about any configuration you might like, depending on your needs.
Small size means invisibility
Although of course there are times when you may want your CCTV installation to be in plain view so as to deter crime, such as if you run a store, you can also make your system nearly invisible by tucking it away out of sight. because the new equipment is so small, you can hide cameras anywhere, and you can also get much better coverage with those cameras because you can put them just about anywhere.
Data is much more easily stored, and much less corruptible
As compared to previous analog systems, it’s also much easier to store the data you receive, and to manage it. It’s also much less corruptible as compared to data stored on analog systems. because it’s stored on a DVR recorder, it’s much more protected than it would be on old systems, which generally used tapes that were not only difficult a store and bulky, but easily damaged. in addition, you have significant redundancy for your data built in, since you can download information from the recorder to a computer, and/or burn it to a CD for long-term storage.
you can opt for continuous recording
While old analog tape systems could generally only do time lapse recording, newer CCTV systems can record continuously, and you can capture and save every recording from every camera. so for example, you can keep historical records, provide valuable information in the event of crime, and so on.
