Madison County, FL — January 2, 2012 –

Three scammers have been targeting local businesses in Madison County for over a month now.

Multiple victims said the suspects come off as nice people, but they are really just the opposite.

Madison County deputies said the two men first tried to pull a fast one on the Busy Bee convenience store and gas station off of Base Street.

“He was very persistent and tried quite a few times to get me to give him back more change than what I owed him.”

Davis says they walked in, spoke to her as regular customers and tried to buy $10 worth of items with a $50 bill. Then she says they argued that they wanted their $50 bill back and extra change to go with it.

“He’ll talk to you the entire time, trying to confuse you. Trying to get you to slip up and give him back more than what you owe him,” Davis said.

The sheriff’s office says they added a third suspect to their scheme — a woman.”

Sometime after that — they targeted a Love’s truck stop.

Across the street is the Red Onion Grill, where they got away with close to $200.

“They asked me for change and I gave them their change and all I can remember is just being really confused and thinking well what’s going on here? why do they keep asking me for change?”said Leah Buchanon, waitress at the Red Onion Grill.

Deputies say these three people still have not been caught.
