can an infrared motion sensor be shorted out by nearby lightning?
My alarm guy says the numerous false alarms from two outdoor infrared sensors are because nearby lightning (we have a lot of it where I live) has shorted out the sensors. I am wondering if that is true, or if he is just trying to sell me new sensors. I was thinking the sensors just might need adjustment – the wind here can also be very strong, and possibly the wind causes a misalignment of the sensors?
It is impossible for common lights to “short out” anything.
Plus, if they WERE “shorted out” then they wouldn’t work, and then how would they be able to give a “false alarm”? They wouldn’t be able to do anything if they were not working.
They are probably going off because some animal or human is walking by and setting them off.
Don’t use that guy or service for anything else.
