Protect Your Doors with a Good Home Alarm System

Surprising to many people, most criminals are going to try to gain entry into your home through a door. Breaking a window and going through there is also pretty popular, but it’s not as subtle because of the noise that would be generated in the process. Criminals don’t want to get caught so they’re going to choose the more quiet route if at all possible. Fortunately, you’re covered in any case if you have a good home alarm system installed at your residence.

Although such a system is the single best way to protect your home, there are some other measures that you’ll also want to implement in conjunction with the alarm to make sure your home security is rock solid. First and foremost, you’re going to want to get in the habit of locking your doors. It may be tempting to play the odds, but eventually your home will be targeted despite whatever you might think. Don’t make it too easy for criminals by leaving doors unlocked. Besides, when you get an alarm installed you’ll have less false alarms by simply closing your doors and keeping them locked.

Another great way to protect a door is to have a deadbolt installed on it. Locks can be manipulated by skillful criminals but a deadbolt cannot. It’s essentially a lock that can only be opened from the inside of your home. The only downside is that you cannot use one while you’re away. This is unfortunate because most criminals will wait for you to go to work or go on vacation before they decide to pounce.

Given enough time, a criminal will find a way to get past a lock, and they’ll have plenty of time while you’re at work or on vacation. That’s why you need to get a home alarm system. The alarm company will first equip your home with door and window sensors that will detect when they’ve been opened. Of course, criminals could try breaking a window to gain entry, bypassing those sensors altogether. That’s why your home alarm system will also make use of motion sensors. These will be placed throughout your home so that should a criminal ever gain entry somehow, they wouldn’t be able to move around without being detected. As a side note, the motion sensors are so sensitive that they could also pick up pets that you keep indoors. That’s why it’s important to notify your alarm company about pets so that the sensors can be calibrated to compensate for them.

Once a criminal is detected during a break-in, which is inevitable, the home alarm system will ring loudly and your alarm company will dispatch local police to the scene. Depending on patrol routes, police could end up arriving in a couple of minutes. That doesn’t give criminals a lot of time to do anything. The reality is that most criminals will skip over your home altogether as soon as they see the alarm company decal in your front yard because they’ll know your house is well protected.
