A FORMER top Cebu City police officer was appointed as chief security officer of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), a day after retiring from the police service last Sunday.
Retired Senior Supt. Melvin Gayotin was sworn in as the new division manager of MCIA’s Airport Police Division in a press conference held by the regional officials of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) yesterday morning.

After announcing Gayotin’s appointment, MCIA General Manager Nigel Paul Villarete administered the oath of appointment for the retired police official.
Gayotin, in an interview with reporters, said one of the first things he will do as airport security manager is to “clean up” his ranks following reports that some members of the airport police are involved in corruption and delinquency.
Extortion
In a radio DYAB report yesterday, a taxi driver accused some members of the Airport Police Division of allegedly engaging in extortion among the taxi drivers in the guise of an entrance fee for taxis.
Another case that Gayotin will look into is the arrest of three airport police officers who were involved in a shooting inside the MCIA.
Gayotin, who retired from the police service during his 56th birthday last Sunday, used to serve as acting Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director.
After his stint at CCPO, he was assigned to the Police Regional Office 6 in Iloilo City, where he worked as chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division and the Regional Intelligence Division.
