Imagine for a moment that you are sitting in your kitchen, enjoying a pleasant dinner with your family, when all of a sudden the doorbell rings. You are in the middle of a meal and so you do not intend to answer it, but when they ring the doorbell several more times you are forced to decide between seeing who it is and dealing with the repeated intrusions. You decide to answer the door, and when you open it there are two shady figures with masks on. They tell you that they are robbing you and demand all of your valuables. Although this may seem like an extreme situation it is more common than you think. That is why this article includes the top 5 ways you can use a driveway alarm home security system to protect your family:

1) The least expensive, and most widely used, system is a motion detector. They work by projecting an infrared or laser beam to monitor a specific field. Anything that breaks the beam triggers a transmitter, which sends a signal to a receiver at another location. The receiver then emits a sound, normally a chime or tune, to alert you that someone has crossed the beam. The receiver can be programmed to accept several inputs, which means one system can monitor several entrances.

2) If you want to target something more specific, like a car or vehicle, then a magnetic sensor might be the best solution for you. They function much like motion detectors except that they only detect large quantities of metal. These are good to use if you have a long driveway, or if there are many small animals and children running around to trip a motion detector at inopportune times.

3) Pressure sensors are expensive, but can provide you with detailed information on who or what is coming so that you can act based upon a good deal of information. It can tell you if it was tripped by a small creature, a person, or a car by checking the weight placed upon it.

4) All of the previous methods were passive ways to protect your house, alerting you to when people approach but not actually stopping them from entering the property. Driveway announcers, on the other hand, are designed to be used in conjunction with gates in order to stop the person before they reach your front door. This will allow you to control your environment and turn unwanted visitors away without having to actually see them.

5) Digital surveillance systems are the most elaborate and expensive way to protect your home; however, they provide you with the most control and protection of all the available systems. They normally incorporate one, or all, of the first three options with a series of cameras and driveway announcers. This combination allows the user to control every aspect of a visitors approach, recording their actions in case they attempt to do something out of the ordinary.

Now that you know what is available on the market you are going to be better equipped to protect your family.
